Selecting a college that suits one's academic, professional and personal needs is an important decision. It requires conscientious research and considerable planning, involving both students and parents alike. There is no "best" college for any individual; there are many options. It is also important to understand that an education is not what a college gives, but what a student gets. The College Counseling Office at McDonogh School gives personal attention to each student navigating this exciting but often anxiety-provoking process, involving what is for many the first major decision of their lives.
The mission of the College Counseling Office is to aid students in researching viable educational choices, ultimately finding the best match between a student's talents and interests and those colleges which will offer appropriate intellectual and personal challenges.
The College Counseling staff would like to welcome you to the College Counseling page of the McDonogh School website. Here you will find a variety of useful information about the college admissions process for students and parents alike.
The staff maintains close contact with college admissions offices around the country. Through membership in professional organizations, attendance at national and regional conferences, and tours of college campuses, our counseling professionals have developed both a working knowledge of colleges and an understanding of the specific issues involved in the admissions processes of different institutions. Two of our counselors are also former college admissions professionals.
