Congratulations to seniors Caitlin Rapalski, James Pitts, Catherine Arbaugh, and Elliet Walton on being named 2023 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists. The four seniors entered the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. They are among some 16,000 national semifinalists in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
The list of semifinalists was announced by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation on September 14, 2023, and from the group, about 7,250 students will be named as finalists in February 2024.
To be considered as a finalist, semifinalists must submit a detailed scholarship application with information about their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. Scholarship winners will be chosen based on their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

To qualify for the recognition, students must have taken the PSAT/NMSQT in the fall of their sophomore or junior year and scored in the top 10% by state. The scholars are encouraged to include the academic honor on college and scholarship applications.
