R-L Retreat Focuses on Character, Camaraderie, Leadership

On a three-day retreat in mid-June, McDonogh’s 12 Rollins-Luetkemeyer (R-L) Leaders for the 2023-2024 school year came together to set group intentions and agreements, determine their individual leadership styles, and understand how to use those qualities to enhance the program with greater efficiency, character, and camaraderie. And that was just the first day!

The retreat, based in Gettysburg, PA, was not all work, however. The rising seniors bonded as a team through a variety of activities including an orienteering exercise that concluded with rappelling. They toured the historic battlefields, went on a candlelit ghost tour through downtown Gettysburg and the college campus, and showed their smarts at a Trivia Night where they were joined by Head of School Dave Farace '87. On the final morning, a stop at The Eternal Peace Light proved to be a poignant way to tie up the retreat.

Faculty advisors Libet Ottinger and Kate Jacobson say they are looking forward to working with the group—a terrific cross-section of the class that has great energy, and varied interests and passions.
