Ravioli a la Second Grade

Last spring, first graders planted San Marzano tomato seeds and left them to grow until the harvest. Now, as second graders, they’ve come full circle—harvesting those same tomatoes and using them to create a savory sauce for homemade ravioli. Under the guidance of Chef Staley in the school’s culinary kitchen, the students learned how to prepare fresh pasta and transform their harvest into a flavorful dish.

This project highlights the rewards of patience and collaboration. From planting seeds to enjoying the meal, students see how every step in the process builds toward something meaningful.
