Students Harvest Potatoes and Apples

Shortly after the start of the school year, students in all three divisions jumped into action to harvest potatoes and apples that were ready for picking at Roots Farm. The work began when a team of 118 eighth graders headed to the fields to pluck the potatoes nestled in the dirt. Next, a clean up crew of 71 fourth graders combed the rows to make sure no spud was left behind. The more than 1,900 pounds of harvested potatoes were then bagged by a team of 19 upper schoolers for delivery to McDonogh's dining hall and a Maryland Food Bank community pantry. But the work did not end there. Over Labor Day Weekend, another team of upper schoolers picked more than 400 pounds of apples from the trees in the Roots Farm orchard for our annual Honey of a JamFest at the end of September.
