What are some of your favorite books, movies, or quotes that inspire you?

Photographer: Arianna Benjamin '26

My favorite books are biographies that spotlight individuals who have triumphed over adversity, revealing their resilience and determination. I also find immense inspiration in sports documentaries that showcase athletes pushing their limits and achieving greatness against all odds. These narratives not only celebrate personal victories but also remind us of the power of perseverance and the human spirit.

Beyond the classroom, what are some of your interests or hobbies that you’re passionate about?

I have a profound passion for traveling and immersing myself in diverse cultures around the world. I particularly enjoy visiting children’s learning environments in different countries, as it offers me valuable insights into their lives and experiences. Additionally, I enjoy uncovering the rich histories of the places I explore. Soccer is another of my interests; I love watching league games and cheering on my son as he plays with his teammates.

How do you connect with and engage students in the learning process?

I embody my self-coined teaching philosophy of the "3 F's"—fair, firm, and fun — to create a positive and effective learning environment.

Fair: I ensure every student feels valued and respected, creating an inclusive community where everyone has a voice.

Firm: I set clear expectations and maintain consistent routines, helping students feel secure and focused on learning while holding them accountable.

Fun: I bring humor and a sense of community into our classroom. I love to laugh, and I love to see joy in my students as they spend their days learning and building bonds with friends.

Why did you pick Second Grade?

I truly enjoy this age group because they are at a remarkable developmental stage, balancing growing independence with a delightful sense of innocence. I cherish the many conversations we share, which are both insightful and heartwarming.
