General Summary

McDonogh School operates one of the finest riding programs in the area and the facilities include indoor and outdoor competition rings, 40 acres of turnout including 25 paddocks with private turnouts, a 70 stall barn and a 50 stall competition stabling building, and a 3 bay auxiliary supply building.

Our new Director of the Equestrian Center will manage the equestrian facilities and associated physical resources at McDonogh School. This includes equestrian center maintenance, supplies management, horse leases, and facilities rentals.

This position holds responsibility for expense budgeting and reporting associated with the equestrian center, and will work closely with the Director of Riding on a daily basis.

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $60,000 - $75,000. The final salary offer will be comensurate on credentials, experience, and benchmarking. Additional information about McDonogh, including benefits available, can be reviewed here.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain the physical plant which includes all grounds, building and equipment maintenance
  • Prepare all show grounds for horse shows and rentals; assist with shows as needed
  • Coordinate purchasing for supplies related to equestrian care and facilities maintenance which includes feed, hay, manure disposal, tack, and horse show needs
  • Manage all facility rentals and related contracts associated with the equestrian center
  • Oversee the boarding of non-McDonogh horses including contracts, scheduling, and stall assignments for horse shows
  • Collaborate with the Director of Riding to ensureproper maintenance and preparation for lessons, boarding, and equine care
  • Collaborate with the Directors of Facilities, Grounds and Housekeeping to ensure facility needs are met
  • Manage all construction and renovation to the equestrian center
  • Ensure all jumps and other show equipment are maintained and meet safety requirements
  • Manage pest control
  • Manage stabling requests
  • Supervise barn help

Recommended Employment Qualifications

Must have a degree associated with equine studies or related experience.

Additional Experience

  • Must have CPR and basic First Aid certification, or be willing to obtain these certifications
  • Must have working knowledge of best practices of stable management and protocols
  • Must have working knowledge of equestrian care
  • The preferred candidate will have experience in facilities management within an equestrian program, and/or have experience in equestrain operations

Working Conditions

Lifting and carrying of 50 pounds or more is typical. Other working conditions include climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, bending, balancing, squatting, reaching, and grasping. Pulling. Pushing. Some evening and weekend hours are required. Working in humid conditions. Working in outside weather conditions. Working near moving mechanical parts. Working with moderate to loud noise levels.
