General Summary
A lower school classroom teacher is responsible for the daily teaching of students at a specified grade level (TBD). They will be positive, hard-working, creative, and caring.
Essential Functions
- Create a classroom atmosphere that promotes joyful learning and a welcoming, purposeful school tone and culture
- Effectively plan and instruct students in phonics, reading, writing, math, handwriting, and social studies; experience with a structured literacy approach and the HMH Into Math program is preferable
- Use various assessment tools/strategies to assess students' abilities, strengths, and areas of need, such as observations, student work samples, progress monitoring, etc.
- Demonstrate effective classroom management; training in the Responsive Classroom approach is an advantage
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents in proactive and professional ways through e-mail, phone calls, in-person conversations, parent-teacher conferences, bi-annual progress reports, etc.
- Express a clear interest in becoming an active and collaborative member of a grade-level team and the McDonogh community
- Actively participate in professional development in order to remain current with best practices in education and technology
- Use technology (Interactive board, document camera, iPad, laptop, etc.) effectively to enhance and extend instruction
- Demonstrate professional standards of presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion
- Perform non-teaching duties (e.g., lunch and recess) to support and assist students throughout the day
- Compensation will be offered in the range of $55,000- $75,000. Individual offers will be specific, and based on education, experience, and benchmarking parameters.
Recommended Employment Qualifications
A minimum of 3-5 years experience as the lead teacher in a primary classroom (K-4). Bachelors Degree. Formal training and qualifications in elementary education. Masters preferred.
Additional Experience
- Must have working knowledge of Google Suite tools, major LMS platforms, and other emerging technologies

Working Conditions
Evening and weekend hours may be required from time to time. Lifting and carrying of equipment is not typical, but may be required on rare occasions. Lifting up to 25 pounds. Other working conditions include climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, and significant computer use including extensive close use of a computer monitor. Reaching, grasping. Stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling.
