General Summary

McDonogh School is looking for a long term substitute to start the 2025-2026 school year. This role is expected to be needed from August-early November of 2025.

An ideal full-time Middle School Mathematics teacher is dynamic, has the ability to teach all levels of mathematics courses through Algebra II, and is interested in developing strong problem-solving and communication competencies in students. The teacher will work with our Middle School students in grades 5 through 8.

Essential Functions

  • Inspire, engage, and encourage students in the study of Mathematics
  • Serve as an advisor; contribute to the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth of adolescents
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate math into other subject areas
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues both inside and outside the Math department
  • Express a clear interest in becoming an active member of the McDonogh community by participating in school activities and working with students outside of the classroom
  • Demonstrate a willingness to engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Respond to the needs of the School, including but not limited to, service learning, coaching, assigned duties, and other areas as determined by the Middle School Head

Recommended Employment Qualifications

A bachelor's degree and (preferably) coursework in the teaching of Mathematics.

Additional Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and create engaging interdisciplinary units, projects, and/or courses
  • Looking for a minimum of 2 years experience teaching, preferably in a Middle School.
  • Must have an understanding of Google Suite tools, major LMS platforms, and other emerging technologies
  • Must have experience or be interested in working as an advisor to a small group of students

  • Interest or experience in leading a math club (Math Olympiad, etc.)
  • Must be able to comply with background check, including finger prints, as required by the agency and / or state regulations.
  • Must be engaged and interested in STEM initiatives, Project-based learning, and 21st century skills
  • Must have organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must have proven problem solving skills, be self motivated, and adaptable
  • Must lead with vision, integrity, enthusiasm, humor, savvy, and humility
  • Must possess personal qualifications as required, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene and physical and mental health that do not interfere with responsibilities.
  • Overtly supports and acts in accordance with the School's mission
  • Years of subject matter experience, specifically teaching Math

Working Conditions

Lifting and carrying of equipment is not typical, but may be required on rare occasions. Other working conditions include climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, and significant computer use including extensive close use of a computer monitor. Reaching, grasping.
