What inspired you to work at a school?

When I was in public accounting, many of the local independent schools were my clients, including McDonogh. The schools were always my favorite clients to go to. The campuses are so full of energy and purpose. I also find the accounting for contributions and gifts and endowment accounting to be quite interesting and unique. When the opportunity arose to join the McDonogh team, I knew it was the right fit.

What do you find most rewarding about working with students/young people?

While I don’t work directly with students in my day-to-day tasks, the work we do in the Business Office ensures that McDonogh can continue fulfilling its mission for years to come.

Are there any memorable or impactful moments in your job or time with McDonogh that stand out to you?

One of my favorite things we get to do in the Business Office is help at Roots Farm. Once or twice a year, we will spend a few hours on the farm helping with whatever Farmer Hood needs! It is so enjoyable to be able to spend time outdoors with colleagues helping on the farm. It is not something most accountants get to do!

Outside of school, what are some of your interests or hobbies that you’re passionate about?

I have three children, so my spare time is mostly filled with kids’ activities. I love watching all their youth sports, including soccer, basketball, baseball/softball, and swimming.

What do you hope students will learn from engaging with you?

I think it is always interesting to learn about all the supporting departments within a school. While the teachers are the main focus, it is important for students to understand what it takes to run any organization/business and all of the behind-the-scenes work.

What are some of your favorite books, movies, or quotes that inspire you?

I love sports movies. Some of my favorites are Rudy, A League of Their Own, and Cool Runnings. From Rudy, I always love this quote: “You're 5-foot nothin', 100 and nothin', and you have barely a speck of athletic ability. And you hung in there with the best college football players in the land for 2 years. And you're gonna walk outta here with a degree from the University of Notre Dame. In this life, you don't have to prove nothin' to nobody but yourself.”

How do you recharge and find inspiration when you’re not at school?

I like to go for walks on the NCR trail and bake gluten-free treats.

Do you have a favorite place on campus? What makes it your favorite?

My favorite place on campus is the drive up Shell Road, specifically in the fall when the leaves have changed colors. This was my first view of McDonogh driving onto campus back in 2012, and I will never forget the true beauty of the campus.
