Animals and Art

On Friday, October 25, the first grade celebrated Animals in Art. Students spent two hours engaging in specially planned activities including sculpting eagles out of clay and decorating cartons of tissue paper with animal-print patterns. Parents from each room assisted faculty during the event, which was planned by the first grade team and art department after the unfortunate cancellation of the first grade's annual field trip to the BMA. First-graders not only worked on their own art projects as they rotated through four stations, but also learned how artists portray animals as portraits, symbols, fantasy, and decoration. The lobby was transformed into a museum displaying famous animal artwork on easels and animal sculptures. The first grade artwork is presently displayed outside their classrooms.
