During Black History Month, fourth graders created a trail of railroad ties down the main hallway in Elderkin Hall to symbolize the Underground Railroad. Each of the 300 spikes placed on the ground represented one of the approximately 300 runaway slaves that Harriet Tubman led to freedom. As they held the spikes, students imagined a real person and the struggles they faced. The vivid display offered a valuable history lesson for all lower schoolers.
