Kate Hailstone’s second grade class presented an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG {Big Friendly Giant} to delighted audiences in the Osborne Black Box Theatre on April 21. The students edited the play, made the scenery and masks, and chose whether they wanted to act or narrate. The play is about a little girl named Sophie who sees a giant blowing dreams into someone’s bedroom. The BFG sees her as well and takes her back to Giant Country where he lives with nine man-eating giants who gobble up humans each night for dinner. Because the BFG is a dream catching giant, he and Sophie concoct a dream to blow into the Queen’s bedroom. The dream tells about the awful giants and when the Queen awakes, she finds Sophie on her window sill. The Queen, the BFG and Sophie all have breakfast and figure out a way to stop the man-eating giants.
