Visiting Authors Share Stories
Lower schoolers enjoyed the opportunity to meet with two visiting authors in late September. Prompted by correspondence with second grader Paula C., children's author Wendy (W.C.) Mack, paid a surprise visit to Paula’s class, where she spoke about her three-book series including Athlete vs. Mathlete. The next day, author/illustrator Javaka Steptoe held workshops with students in grades two through four. The award-winning author of Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, connected with his audience through humor, creativity, and expression. Both Mack and Steptoe shared their journey of becoming an author and encouraged the students to express themselves through their writing.
