Eighth graders are always eager to move up to the Upper School, but before that journey can begin for the Class of 2023, their time in the Middle School had to come to an end with the Eighth Grade Closing Ceremony on Monday, June 3. Under blue skies, the eighth grade class processed from Tagart Chapel down to Childs Memorial Terrace where they were greeted by faculty, family and friends. On behalf of the sixth grade, Amanda Bavar, Joshua Brown, and Isabella Sodhi presented the eighth grade with gifts to show appreciation for all of their accomplishments. Student speakers Jack Gordon and Alexis Brown reminisced about the moments of joy and the countless opportunities they experienced during their time at McDonogh, and looked ahead to all the wonderful things Upper School has in store. Finally came the moment they had all been waiting for as Middle School Head Darren Ford presented each student with their certificate. Ford encouraged them to branch out and become their best possible selves during their Upper School journey. After the cermony, the eighth graders gathered with their family and friends by the statue of John McDonogh, just outside of Allan building, which will be their new home next year.
