Art Students Show Growth
Oletha DeVane, a celebrated artist in her own right, has spent her career at McDonogh helping students explore their creative talents and celebrating their growth. While her students' works would normally grace the walls of the St. Johns Student Center, the pandemic has altered this tradition as it has so many others. So DeVane, determined to celebrate her students work, chose this virtual space as a gallery of sorts.
Below are works form DeVane's Art I Select class. This class is a prerequisite for all visual arts electives and is taken by freshman who demonstrate proficiency and commitment to developing artistic technique and thought. For this assignment, DeVane challenged her students to use materials from nature or their own homes and techiniques that they learned in class to represent growth or changes in a biological life cycle.
