One of Farmer Hood's missions with Roots Farm is to give students a better understanding of where their food comes from. With that mission in mind, Kindergartners came together on Tuesday, November 12 to finish the last step in their "Seed to Table" lesson.
Last spring, the soon-to-be-kindergartners came to Roots Farm to plant sugar pumpkin seeds. A few weeks ago, they harvested the pumpkins that grew from those seeds. Now, under the direction of Chef Staley and Chef Anita, students created pumpkin puree, combined it with the necessary ingredients to create a batter, and baked fresh, delicious pumpkin muffins. The rest of the batter will be saved and used to bake more muffins, which the kindergartners will share with their grandparents on Grandparents Day.
