Helpful Harvesters
As the temperatures grow colder, there is still a lot of work to be done at Roots Farm before it is put to bed for the winter. The first grade took the final hayride of the season out to the farm on Tuesday, October 15 to give Farmer Hood a hand. The young farmers harvested root vegetables and pumpkins, many of which will be donated to the Maryland Food Bank. After a lesson on how bees prepare for the winter, from Beekeeper Gonnan, the first graders helped decorate beehive boxes for Roots' beeyard. Finally, no fall day at the farm would be complete without a turn of the cider press and a taste of fresh apple cider. Yum!
