The fourth grade brought the poems of Francisco Alarcón to life and led an audience of family and friends through a Mexican folktale about the cuckoo bord during their Performing Arts Capstone Performance on Friday, April 8.
Beginning with Alarcón’s works, students recited a selection of the poet's works in both English and Spanish while classmates told the story of the poem through movement. Next, the entire class came together to tell the tale of the cuckoo bird and how it gained its gray color and distinctive call through spoken word, song, and dance.
Guided by Lower School Performing Arts teacher Beth Rausch, students developed their own costumes, choreography, and also acted as stage managers for the performance.
