In remembrance of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Middle and Upper School students, faculty, and staff gathered on the morning of Monday, September 13, for a moment of silence. Bridget Collins '90, the Charles W. Britton Director of Character and Service, led the memorial reflection which was held on the Finney Senior Quad.
Collins reminded the gathering of how the country came together on that day, 20 years ago, and in the weeks and months after. She explained that without hesitation, people ferried strangers across the Hudson in the midst of the chaos, donated blood, helped with recovery, and aided the families of the victims at all three sites. Collins said, "In remembering these violent acts, what we often forget about are the hours and weeks of solidarity following the tragedy and the outpouring of love here in America and abroad."
Head of Upper School Merritt Livermore '91 and Interim Head of Middle School Robyn Little placed a wreath below the American flag, which remained at half staff. As everyone stood in silence, the Chapel bells tolled softly in the distance.
