"On Our Way," the opening song of the Lower School Closing Ceremony on Friday, May 31 set the tone for the morning which celebrated the fourth grade Class of 2032 as they move to Middle School.
After representatives from each Lower School grade processed down the hill with their current class banner in hand, the fourth grade made their entrance behind the Drum Corps. Students, families, and friends enjoyed welcome remarks and musical interludes, as well as memories and advice from the fourth graders. Among their words of wisdom was "make sure to charge your Chromebook," "don’t freak out during the puberty unit," and "find joy in your learning."
Head of Lower School Nancy Fleury offered her own advice saying,"As you start this exciting adventure, know that we believe in you and know you'll shine brightly. Remember to always stay true to yourself. Embrace what makes you unique, and never forget the values and strengths that have brought you this far. Being yourself is your superpower!"
Following the presentation of certificates by Fleury and Head of School Dave Farace '87, the Class of 2032 received warm hugs from the teachers who nurtured and guided them on the first part of their McDonogh journey. Next, the exchange of banners signified the moment when the younger students were officially promoted to the next year’s grade. The ceremony ended with the joyful tossing of the blazers by the rising fifth graders.
