Athletic Leadership Academy Celebrates Third Year
The McDonogh Athletic Leadership Academy celebrated the end of its third year with a ceremony on Monday, April 14 in the 1873 Room. Of the 20 participants in the Emerging Leaders program and 23 in the Veteran Leaders program, 15 were recognized for going beyond the course requirements and completing the 2024-2025 leadership program with honors.
The banquet included comments from Emerging Leader Mya Tortora '26, who spoke about the four C's in Leadership: commitment, confidence, composure, and character. She said, “In this program, we dove into how a leader acts on and off the field. We talked about the challenges of getting your teammates as excited about the sport as the leader may be, and the productive team that can be built from a full team’s commitment.”
Veteran Leader Mason Bainbridge '25 spoke next, noting, “What makes this Academy so special is that we receive the information early in life, at a perfect age. It gives us the opportunity to make mistakes, try again, and grow. It gives us the chance to lead before the consequences of poor leadership become too real. And the fact that we learn this all in-season, too, makes it even more powerful.”
