Closing Ceremony Celebrates Class of 2010

closing ceremony 2002p>Bagpiper Adam G. '10 and the drum corps led the procession to Childs Memorial Terrace, followed by students carrying class and grade banners. As the ceremony got underway, Mrs. Lidston offered some statistics about the fourth-grade graduates:

  • "We have heard you answer to Greenie, Mego, Brad the Bomb, Munch, Bear, Slammer, Beep-Beep, and Zam."

  • "Many of you have attended, or will attend, the Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University. Two of you have had artwork chosen to be displayed at the State House, one is a golf champion, and many of you have won awards for biking, bowling, horseback riding, dancing, and running."
  • "You are a well-traveled group. Within the class, you have been to 49 states."
  • "One student would like to design roller coasters, and another would like to design fabric. Many of you want to be doctors. One student wants to be a meteorologist and one a gardener."
  • "Seventy-five persent of you said you admired your parents or grandparents because they are: hard workers, never give up, are creative, are good role models, and, most importantly, 'they love me no matter what.'"

After students received their certificates, Headmaster Bo Dixon revealed his annual Milkshake Challenge: a milkshake to any rising fifth-grader who writes to him about the meaning of the song "The Greatest."

The new middle schoolers celebrated their status like Naval Academy graduates. They tossed their blazers high in the air.
