Faculty Show Raises Big Money for Katrina Relief

Last night's Faculty Follies, which one student called "a performance of a lifetime," raised more than $3,000 for Katrina Relief and delighted a large and appreciative audience.

Emcees Kevin and Renee Costa, who provided lively repartee throughout, opened the show with a charming duet. Succeeding acts ranged from serious to silly:

a video starring members of the English department, who demonstrated their distinctive methods for grading papers

an original rap by "Salt and Salt," Bridget Collins (history) and Katie Pearl (math)

Geography class, a skit featuring ill-mannered students including class deans Bill Seal and Libet Ottinger and members of the math and foreign language departments

vocal and instrumental performances by Donn Lewis (computer science); Beckie Lamborn (art); a folk music trio of Holly Gizzi (riding), Katie Pearl (math) and Marie Allee (school psychologist); and Headmaster Bo Dixon accompanied by the Gentlemen Songsters and the Women of Note

a stunning aria by Toni Stefano (private music)

Use Equipment Properly, an energetic skit by the physical education department

an impressive step-dance routine by English, math, history, and foreign language teachers and class deans.

Skilled lip-synching by Sonny and Cher lookalikes Jim Tsouvalos (freshman dean) and Elaine Chilcoat (US secretary), Alumni Director George Gebelein, and Michelle Kriebel (wellness) with a trio of back-up "singers."

The talented faculty band, Diminished Faculties, closed the show with four numbers from the 60s and 70s. Band members included Marie Allee, Maurice Boylan (soccer coach), Kevin Costa (drama), Holly Gizzi, Pete Hengen (instrumental music), Steve Martel (social studies), Don New (instrumental music), Katie Pearl, and Mike Robertson (computer services).

Faculty Follies also included a serious message--a compelling slide show of post-Katrina New Orleans.
