Teacher Recognition Award for Howell

Teachers don’t always know the impact they have on their students. It’s nice to find out, even years later, as Director of Diversity Education Sharon Howell recently did.

Sheila, now a junior, nominated Howell, her former second-grade teacher, for an educator recognition award from the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. Sheila’s compelling essay, “The Teacher Who Inspired Me the Most,” won for Howell CTY’s 2001 Teacher Recognition Award.

Sheila wrote: “Mrs. Howell certainly set her standards high . . . she will continue to inspire me to try to do my best, like the McDonogh [Lower] School motto, “Be the best of whatever you are.” If it weren’t for her, I would not be the person I am today.”
