Giles Sets National Record, Eagles Second in MIAA

Giles S.'09 set a national independent school record in the 50-yard freestyle at the Maryland Independent Athletic Association A Conference championships on Saturday, February 7 at Loyola Blakefield. His time of 19.74 eclipsed the old mark of 20.01, which was set in 1991 by Joe Hudepohl (1992 and 1996 Olympic gold medalist).

The University of Tennessee-bound senior was featured in an audio interview February 12 on swimmingworld.com. Follow this link to hear Giles and Eagles coach Scott Ward.

Giles' record-setting performance wasn't the only excitement at the MIAA championships. The Eagles made it close, finishing a strong second to Loyola by winning five of eleven events and tying Loyola in a sixth. Read an account of the meet in The Baltimore Sun.
