McDonogh's Character Compass was brought to life for Upper School students during the Honor Convocation Assembly on Thursday, October 1 through the words of five senior members of the Honor Council. Each shared a personal story about one of the points on the compass: respect, kindness, responsibility, honesty, and service.
Honor Council faculty advisor Bridget Collins also talked about the importance of living honorably and how the character compass and the support of the McDonogh community can help students stay on track and make good decisions.
A huge, student-painted canvas of the character compass hung in the center of the stage during the speeches. Following the assembly, the canvas was moved to the lobby for students and faculty to sign, affirming their commitment to use the character compass as a guide in upholding the Honor Code. The banner will hang in the lobby of the Ceres M. Horn Theatre as a daily reminder of their pledge.
Read the incredibly inspiring speeches by Bridget Collins, and seniors Babe B. (Respect), Josh H. (Kindness), Hannah M. (Responsibility), Daniel B. (Honesty), and Alexis B. (Service).
The canvas was painted by the following members of the theatre tech crew: Amber C. '13, Drew L. '11, Nik M. '13, Meghan M. '10, Javon M. '10, Riana P. '12, Harris R. '13, Jacob T. '11, Alexa W. '13, and Adrian W. '13.
