Mission Emmanuel, an effort to support the work of Emmanuel Yeboah by sending bikes and books to Ghana, is growing, thanks to an overwhelming response from the McDonogh community and beyond. The current 20-foot container will be replaced with a larger one to accommodate all the donations of bikes and books. The Middle School Well, Well, Well concert and Upper School homecoming dance raised more than $4,500 for the cause, which is enough to pay for a 40-foot shipping container and its transport to Ghana.
If you still have bikes or books to donate:
Lower School parents can deposit children's books in boxes located in the lobby of Elderkin Hall, and drop off bikes on the kindergarten blacktop area. You can also bring items with you on conference day, March 11.
Middle School parents can deposit books in Cathy Schorreck's room on the third floor of Finney Building. Please drop off bikes by the shipping container in the lot between Lyle Building and the Clarence Burck Center for the Performing Arts.
Upper School parents can deposit books in the foyer of Allan Building. Bikes should go to the shipping container.
Race Pace bike shop in the St. Thomas Shopping Center, 9930 Reisterstown Rd., is also a drop-off point for bikes.
To give students time to pack the container, the deadline for donations to Race Pace is March 10 and to campus is March 11. The container will be picked up for shipping on March 12. For more information, please contact sophomore class dean Nancy Love, nlove@mcdonogh.org.
