Lower and Middle School Students Bond Over Bay Issues

Following the eighth graders' three-day trek to the farthest reaches of the Chesapeake Bay, they joined the fourth grade on Friday, October 22, for a full day of team-building activities and bay games that deepened all students' understanding of how McDonogh's campus fits into the vast Chesapeake watershed.

Morning activities included bonding on McDonogh's low ropes course and identifying behaviors students could change that would help the bay. Taking shorter showers was a popular goal!

The afternoon featured a journey to twenty-four stations along Gwynns Falls stream on McDonogh’s campus. Students conducted important water quality experiments that contributed to a world-wide index and can be monitored on the internet.

Perhaps the greatest success of the day could be measured by one fourth grader's comment, "I made three new friends today."
