A delegation of McDonogh students traveled to India during spring break and returned with stories and photos of the overwhelming poverty in the rural regions. Feeling an immense need to raise awareness and help these people on the other side of the globe, upper school students will host an evening benefit to celebrate India on Friday, May 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the John McDonogh Stadium. Proceeds from the event will fund a full year's scholarship for a girl to attend Pardada Pardadi Vocational School in the rural Ganges Valley. McDonogh has been engaged in a partnership with the school since 2007.
Traditional Indian food, a cricket demonstration, dance, and song will help participants experience a bit of Indian culture. Fine handwork made by students at Pardada Pardadi and henna painting will also be available. A complimentary showing of a family-oriented Bollywood movie will end the evening.
Tickets are $10 at the door, $9 if pre-registered, and $2 for children five and under. Register online.
