CMP: Dirt moves, permission awaited, turf coming

Here's the latest on Campus Master Plan projects:

Permission granted, trucks moving dirt: The storm water management pond for the entire first phase of the CMP is being excavated where the Doyles Woods house (below the bus shop and transportation office) once stood. In order to build the new parking lots, dump trucks will travel up Woods Road, in front of the field house, and through the stadium to the north fields.

Red light for the time being: Installation of the Woods Road traffic signal is delayed. As part of the construction of the new intersection, the culvert under McDonogh Road needs to be replaced. That culvert needs to travel above the existing main water line, which sits beneath the road. The county is requiring further design work on the culvert to assure that the water line is not damaged.

There is progress to report: BGE poles are continuing to be relocated and widening of McDonogh Road will occur every area except where the culvert goes under the road. We still hope the culvert work can be performed later this year. The traffic signal cannot be activated until the culvert work and the associated road widening are complete.

Razing the houses: The two houses across from Lamborn Hall (the dining hall) are ready to be razed once the permit is released by the county. Certain sediment control measures need to be completed first. In the meantime, the longtime residents of those homes are enjoying their new spaces on campus.

Turf field and LS turf playground: The sub-pad for the new turf field and half the shipment of the field turf should arrive on Friday, July 29. Installation will take about nine days. Additional upgrades to the field including lighting still depend on funding. The field itself should be ready by the time pre-season practices begin in mid-August.

For all work during the CMP construction stages, appropriate fencing is installed to keep our pedestrians safe.
