Food Service Director is MVP

Janet Braun, food service director at McDonogh School, has been named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the Mid-Atlantic region by her employer, SAGE Dining Services, which has provided meals to the McDonogh community since 1992.

Braun, 47, of Dundalk, received her award on June 16 at SAGE's annual training event, the SAGE Institute. The MVP award goes to the individual who most selflessly gives of himself or herself to help others within SAGE. The winner routinely goes above and beyond the call of duty – and does so with a smile and encouragement for his or her SAGE colleagues.

A SAGE employee for more than 15 years, Braun was cited for her support of colleagues in planning and executing their catered events at other schools. She is also an enthusiastic mentor to rookies in her district. Says her District Manager, Tim Walsh, who nominated her for the award, "Janet takes ownership of her portion of any event and orchestrates it no differently than if it was an event of her own." She also helps the sales team as they plan sample menus and cost out catered events for sales proposals.

" 'Sure, we can take care of that,' is the typical response from Janet when anyone asks for something from the dining hall,” says Larry Johnston, McDonogh's vice president of finance and administration. “From serving 1,800 meals per day to almost 800 catering events during the year, she consistently delivers a great product with a smile.

“Janet sets a tone for service, and all of her employees follow that lead,” adds Johnston. “SAGE Dining Services has always given us great managers, and Janet is one of the best of this already exceptional group.”
