Friendship Builds Desks
When first grade teacher Mary Catherine Irving heard that grandparents of one of her students had gotten back from a volunteer trip to Haiti, she figured all the kids might enjoy learning about the experience. Her kids overwhelmed her by asking if they could hold a fundraiser for their peers in Haiti, and the rainbow-pin sale was born.
The students made, marketed, and sold pins to their schoolmates. The money they raised went to All Hands Volunteers to buy desks for schoolchildren in Haiti. To read more, click here.
