McDonogh Supports Japan

On Friday, April 1, upper school students gathered to say farewell to eight Japanese exchange students from Seijo Gakuen Senior High School in Tokyo who arrived at McDonogh for a two-week stay just ten days after the devastating earthquake and tsunami struck Japan.

During a special indoor lunchtime picnic, McDonogh presented the visitors with a ceremonial check for $10,250 representing funds that students in grades K-12 raised for the Japanese Red Cross Society. The guests showed their appreciation by singing a beautiful song about new beginnings in Japanese. They received a standing ovation for their heartfelt performance.

Later in the day, the track team sponsored a "Jog for Japan" to support the cause.

The entire McDonogh community wore red and white apparel and ribbons to school in honor of Japan's national colors.

Fundraising has continued. The McDonogh community has collected more than $12,000 for the JRCS.
