We started with a question: Could we fill an entire school bus with food donations for the Maryland Food Bank?
We got our answer on Saturday, August 20. The local community delivered a half-ton of non-perishable food, literally, to a McDonogh school bus parked at the Anneslie Shopping Center on York Rd. The weighed total was just over 999 pounds.
Accepting the donations were members of the cross country and football teams, along with coaches and staff. They filled every seat and a third of the floor.
Said project coordinator Amy Brooks, a teacher-coach and member of McDonogh's character and service committee, "The effort was a great success! Let's fill two buses next year!"
Amy Brooks, Anita Hilson, and bus driver Jennifer DeMoss delivered the bounty to the food bank at 9 a.m. Monday. They also presented a cash donation, a gift from Saturday's food donors.
If you couldn't make it to the bus on Saturday, you can bring non-perishables to the first floor of Allan Building (main entrance) on campus before Wednesday, August 24 at 5 p.m.
Maryland Food Bank will send a truck to campus to pick up donations, including fresh produce harvested from our McDonogh ROOTS garden.
