Smoot Receives Contribution to Wrestling Award
On Friday, March 30, upper school science teacher and head
JV wrestling coach Robert Smoot was awarded the William T.
Hastings Award for Contribution to Wrestling by the Maryland
Wrestling Officials Association (MWOA). Each year, MWOA
recognizes an individual for their outstanding contribution
for the betterment of the sport of wrestling.
"Rob is well-deserving of this honor having been a steady,
positive influence in the wrestling room for thirty years at
McDonogh,” says Mickey Deegan, co-director of athletics.
“Having wrestled himself at McDonogh and then at Duke
University, Rob knows firsthand what it takes to be a great
wrestler. He is patient, kind, and an experienced coach who
has worked closely with hundreds of students.”
