Thursday, February 9 at 7 p.m., Horn Theatre (New Location)
Dr. Thomas Lickona, a developmental psychologist and Professor of Education at the State University of New York at Cortland, will present a character education program focusing on the "Fourth and Fifth Rs" (Respect and Responsibility) to McDonogh parents. Dr. Lickona's message is that character is power--the underlying success in school and all areas of life. He describes character as having two major parts: "performance character" (self-discipline, hard work, and perseverance as the qualities needed for achievement) and "moral character" (honesty, respect, and caring as the qualities needed for ethical behavior in relationships). He will share how important it is to develop both sides of character if we wish to help all students realize their potential for success.
