Dear Members of the McDonogh Community,
It is with great pride that I announce that Associate Head of School and Head of Upper School Kirsten Adams has been named Head of School at St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, a highly-regarded K-12 school in Alexandria, Virginia. After a combined 10 years as Head of Upper School at McDonogh and Hockaday School in Texas, this is an exciting and well- deserved career opportunity for Kirsten. She will begin her new role on July 1, 2014.
Kirsten's departure from McDonogh is certainly a loss for our community. As Head of Upper School for the past six years, she has been a dynamic and thoughtful administrator, fostering relationships among students and teachers and empowering faculty to be innovative educators. As a result, the Upper School continues to be recognized, both regionally and nationally, for providing engaging, rigorous, and inspiring academic programs.
In addition, as Associate Head of School, Kirsten has been instrumental in the implementation of the campus master plan and the completion of The Naylor Building and The Edward St. John Student Center.
Kirsten has immersed herself in every aspect of school life, and her energy and enthusiasm have been the force for so much good. We will miss her and the entire Adams family. Her husband Jeff, and children, Lily, Meg, and Colin are also cherished members of the McDonogh Family.
Please join me in thanking Kirsten for her outstanding contributions to the leadership of McDonogh School and wishing her the very best in her new position as Head of St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School.
In the coming weeks, we will implement a search for a new Head of Upper School. Great schools attract and launch amazing educators and administrators. Kirsten is a fine example. I am confident that our search will be successful, and we will find an individual who will lead with many of the same outstanding qualities that Kirsten brought to this position.
Sincerely,
Charles W. Britton
Headmaster
