Memorial Service for Eleanor Grant

Eleanor A. Grant, a beloved staff member from 1971 to 1998, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11. From 1973 until her retirement, Eleanor served as Administrative Assistant to former McDonogh President Lud Michaux '40 and former Headmasters Bill Mules '59 and Bo Dixon. She is fondly remembered for her exceptional character, gracious nature, determination, precision, and expertise on matters of written protocol.

In 1991, Eleanor was honored with the Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Award for her long-standing commitment to McDonogh. During the award presentation, Mules shared, “Eleanor is a friend, counselor, and confidante to me and to my family, and she is the cornerstone for the operations center at the north end of Allan. And despite her Phi Beta Kappa, super-star, wonder woman approach to the tasks that make McDonogh work, Eleanor is unassuming and modest!”

A memorial service will be held at McDonogh School in Tagart Memorial Chapel on Saturday, October 19 at 10:00 a.m., followed by the inurnments of Eleanor and her husband, John, who passed away in 1998. Guests are invited to a reception in Kiplinger Library in the Upper School following the service and inurnments.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Eleanor’s sons John H. Grant III (Trip) ’77 and Jeffrey S. Grant ’81 and her extended family.
