Middle School Riders Earn Ribbons

McDonogh’s Middle School riders are making a name for themselves in the school’s equestrian program and beyond. Earlier this month, a number of riders competed at the Maryland Horse and Pony Show in Prince George’s County, which had more than 500 horses and ponies entered.

Congratulations to Grace B. '18 (pictured) on winning the State Pony Medal Finals against a very competitive field. Her blue ribbon was a first for McDonogh in this event, although Jacob Pope ’13 came close when he earned second place when he was in Middle School.

Madeline M. '18 placed fifth in her first $2,500 National Hunter Derby event--riding against a field of 28, including many adults and trainers. Madeline was the youngest by far. Allyson H. '18 rode her young horse beautifully and received multiple ribbons in a very competitive Children's Hunter division. Hard work, grit, and determination paid off for Sarah B. '18 who also earned many ribbons against the top ponies in the nation.

Sisters, Sarah and Grace B. both qualified their ponies for the Pennsylvania National Horse Show, which only takes the top 30 ponies in the nation. The girls have worked all year to qualify for the prestigious show held the second weekend of October. This will be the first year both girls are able to compete.
