For the second year running, both the girls and boys outdoor track teams won the IAAM and MIAA Championships. The teams were not only defending their outdoor titles, they were hoping to hold on to the indoor championship track titles earned earlier in the year.
Girls' team, who has won the outdoor championship the past 11 seasons, was ahead during the two days of competition, thanks to stellar performances in a variety of events. The boys team kicked into high gear at the finals on Saturday, May 10 to defeat Gilman by 11 points. Read more in The Baltimore Sun.
On Sunday, May 11, the girls lacrosse team took their string of consecutive victories to 112 when they defeated Roland Park Country School (RPCS) for the IAAM “A” Conference Championship title at Stevenson University. The win was not as easy as it may appear.
According to Athletic Director Mickey Deegan, “It was a tight game between the Eagles and the Reds with both teams exchanging leads. But the Reds caught fire immediately in the second half and pulled away by three goals for the first time in the game...one could sense the tide was turning (12-9) in favor of RPCS. Undaunted though, the Eagles clawed their way back winning the next seven straight draws and scoring rapidly.”
“Never say never to this team who also had to battle back from a three goal deficit vs. Severn in the semifinal this week,” Deegan continued. Final score McDonogh 16-13! This is the team's sixth straight IAAM crown. Read more in The Baltimore Sun.
