The McDonogh Singers, a performance choir comprised of seventh and eighth grade students, hosted the annual Middle School Idol competition on Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14. The two-day competition began with 27 students who performed a variety of songs for three judges from the Baltimore arts community. The judges narrowed the field to 12 finalists on the basis of vocal ability, song choice, stage presence, and expression. Congratulations to eighth grader Caroline B. for winning both Senior Idol and the Audience Choice vote for her rendition of "Jolene.” Sixth grader Delaney T. was voted the Junior Idol winner with her heartfelt rendition of "Home" from The Wiz.
The Middle School Idol competition raised more that $4,000, which will be used for students on scholarship at McDonogh to be able to participate in an upcoming trip to Disney World. The trip planned from February 20-23 includes a Broadway Workshop and a Disney Sings Workshop where students will learn how to create voice-overs and record background vocals from two scenes in The Lion King.
