Global Citizens Week: The Shopping Experience
Prior to winter break each year, seventh graders spend a week
dedicated to learning what it means to be a global citizen. Teacher Kate
Adair says, "The goal is to help students think beyond themselves and
to remind them to 'never forget that a small group of thoughtful,
committed citizens can change the world,' to quote Margaret Mead."
Through guest speakers, activities, and quality time to reflect, students become aware of global and local issues involving hunger, human rights, and the environment. On Wednesday, December 20, students participated in a unique activity that impressed upon them that poverty and hunger are real in our local communities. Watch their realization unfold and see their response.
