LS Chess Team Victorious
McDonogh’s Lower School chess team captured first place from among 37
teams
in the K-3 Under 600 section at the 2017 Maryland Elementary School Chess
Championships on March 18. The chess team is comprised of members of
McDonogh’s Chess Club who choose to play competitively.
The four highest-scoring team members in this competition were Chase G.
'27, Matthew M. '26, Rajan M. '28, and John R. '26. Individual trophies were
awarded to John R., who tied for third place among 79 players, and Matthew M.,
who tied for eighth place. Co-coaches John D. Rockefeller V and National Master
Arkadiy Frenkel are pleased with and proud of their students’ performances.
