Thirty superheroes from the prekindergarten class unleashed their powers for good in the Kelly Center recently, committed to banishing bullying from every corner of their world! They felt completely empowered to do this through a Learning for Living lesson on Helping Everyone Respect Others (HERO).
The prekindergartners first watched a video featuring Sesame Street characters singing “Don’t Be a Bully” to the classic tune, “Wooly Bully.” They then heard the story of Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun, dramatized for them by Anaiya D. ‘19 and Daniel K. ‘20. The heroine of the story, Lucy, triumphs over a classmate’s teasing by helping him in an hour of need. Lucy recalled that her grandfather had once said, “Everyone has a heart with feelings.”
After discussing the story together, the children realized the importance of advocating for themselves and others whenever they are being mistreated. They sang a hearty chorus of “What the World Needs Now” and then turned to creating colorful capes emblazoned with the letter “R” for “Respect.” Now properly attired, the Class of 2030 set off on their mission to make the world a better, more respectful place.
