The first challenge that McDonogh’s Coed Varsity Squash team encountered last week was how to safely get to Hartford, Connecticut, as the region was being blanketed in snow. Once they arrived, they had to face some of the strongest high school teams in the nation in the HEAD 2017 U.S. High School Team Championships held February 10 through 12. After defeating Haverford, Lawrenceville, and Brunswick School in very tough matches, the Eagles faced the top-seeded Brooks School in the finals and won! Each player’s grit and determination contributed to the victory.
The 2017 U.S. High School Team Championship, the largest squash tournament in the world, involved nearly 1,500 players on 105 boys teams—a tournament record—and 76 girls teams competing. McDonogh has a coed varsity squash team because the I.A.A.M. currently does not have an official squash conference.
