The McDonogh Model UN team led by Naomi Lebowitz '21 (president) and Lily Ates '21 (vice-president) just wrapped up a successful virtual Model UN conference from January 15 - 17. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this was the first-ever virtual Model UN conference but the stakes remained the same as students spent countless hours, day and night, playing different characters and solving world issues.
The McDonogh team garnered five awards for its efforts:
Mehek Bajaj '23 - Outstanding Delegate for representing Múte Bourup Egede, MP of Inatsisartut; co-leader of Inuit Ataqatigiit party (largest opposition party) in the Greenlandic Independence from Denmark 2020 Committee.
Leena Rai '21 - Honorable Mention for representing Georgia in the US Constitutional Convention 2100 Committee.
Jack Long '22 - Verbal Commendation for representing Carl Kaysen, US Deputy National Security Advisor in the Cuban Missile Crisis Committee.
Ashley Puritz '22 - Verbal Commendation for representing Áine Markham, Director of Operations and President MSF Belgium in the Doctors Without Borders in Yemen 2018 Committee
Hayley Sciubba '22 - Verbal Commendation for representing Carlos Montes, co-founder of the Brown Brets, a Chicano youth group inspired by the Black Panthers in the Revolutionary People’s Constitutional Convention Committee
Congratulations to the Model UN team for showing the flexibility, adaptability, and resilience to represent McDonogh so well under such unprecedented circumstances.
