McDonogh School is pleased to announce the appointment of Enaye Englenton as Director of Equity and Inclusion beginning July 1, 2022. Englenton, who comes to McDonogh from Tampa Preparatory School in Florida, is an accomplished independent school educator with more than 20 years of experience. During her tenure, she was responsible for supporting the academic and social-emotional growth of students with a sustained commitment to advancing institutional equity and inclusion. Additionally, she developed diversity and equity-related professional development, conducted training for adults and students, and provided advice on curriculum and instructional approaches to promote a greater sense of belonging for all.
During the interview process, Englenton shared, “I became an educator because I believe that the foundation of a good society lies in shaping the mind and character of the next generation,” In making the announcement,
Head of School Dave Farace ‘87 said, “Enaye’s philosophy on education mirrors our mission to be an inclusive community that provides life-altering educational experiences and develops in students the will to do the greatest possible amount of good.”
Englenton’s commitment to advancing equity and inclusion extends beyond Tampa Preparatory School. She co-facilitated the creation of the North, Central, and Southern Florida Diversity Practitioners Group which provides opportunities for students, faculty, and administrators in independent schools to support one another as they develop programming. She has also presented on equity and inclusion topics during workshops sponsored by the Florida Council of Independent Schools.
A first-generation college graduate and native of Chicago, Englenton holds a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Legal Studies from the Golden Gate University and an M.A. in Multicultural and International Education from the University of San Francisco. Prior to joining Tampa Preparatory, she taught in California and Belize. Englenton began her career as an Americorps Teaching Fellow.
