Phil Turner Named Maryland Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year
Boys and Girls Cross Country coach Phil Turner was selected by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as the State of Maryland's Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year. State-by-state winners were selected based on their teams’ performances throughout the 2021 cross country season. Among the factors taken into consideration were team score and placement at the state championships, margin of victory, performance against rankings if available, individual championships, and how their teams’ performances stacked up to previous years. Turner led the girls Cross Country team through an undefeated season as well as an IAAM championship during the 2021 season.
