Members of the SDLC interview Paralympic swimmer Jessica Long.

The Upper School Student Diversity Leadership Council (SDLC) hosted Paralympic swimmer Jessica Long for an assembly presentation on Wednesday, December 4 in honor of International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Long, the most decorated active U.S. Paralympian is a four-time ESPY award winner and a 31-time Paralympic medalist (18 gold, 8 silver, and 5 bronze).

In preparation for Long's visit, the SDLC designed a special advisory lesson highlighting the accomplishments of Paralympic athletes and the importance of disability justice and advocacy. Long’s story of courage, perseverance, and athletic excellence truly impacted the student body and created greater awareness about the ways they can advocate for disability rights.
